Janine Gates Photography images (above) were selected by the ArtXchange Gallery in Seattle to be a part of a national juried exhibit of artwork exploring the theme of Compassion. ArtXchange is a partner withSeeds of Compassion, which organized the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Seattle in April. The Compassion show ran from April 11 - May 30, 2008 at ArtXchange, 512 First Ave. S., Seattle “I am very excited to be selected for my work. The ArtXchange saw themes in my photojournalistic style and work that I didn’t see. In the images they chose, they saw my commitment to my community and to my son. This spoke to them as compassion,” Gates explains. “Bernie frequently portrays Gandhi to promote peace, and my son, by dressing in traditional clothing while in Jordan, also sought to explore a deeper understanding of another culture through full immersion.” “Our trip to the Middle East was to get beyond the headlines and take personal responsibility to learn what is going on in the region. As a mom, I wanted to show my son a different part of the world. We had many preconceptions and misconceptions and came back with a much better understanding of this hugely misunderstood region of the world.” Janine's greeting cards of Turkey and Jordan and other images are also available at ArtXchange Gallery 512 First Avenue S., Seattle.
